My poor little boy fell down on the cement this last Saturday during the girls first b-day. He was playing with some older boys, tossing a football around, and one of them backed up into him and knocked him over on accident.
None of the adults actually witnessed what happened, but Daddy was close by and heard a huge thud on the ground and then Ty instantly started crying. When Ricky brought him into the house to me I was mortified. He was miserable, crying like I have never heard him cry before. We got him to lay down and rest, and he ended up taking a nap (given, that may not have been the best idea to let him do). He got up about an hour later acting really quiet and weird. We told him to park it on the couch for a bit, and he did. When he got up he was SCREAMING in pain, hollering like some kind of wild beast, stating that his head hurt. I of course wanted to immediately take him to the hospital to get him checked out, but once we got some Tylenol in him, he was fine and acting normal again.
Waking up with headaches went on for all day Sunday and part of the day Monday before we took him into the doctor to find out he did officially have a concussion. They said it was mild and should heal quickly, but something that will continue to cause him headaches for at least 5 days. Yesterday, Tuesday, really seemed to be the worst. Didn't sleep all night because his head hurt, didn't nap at school because his head hurt, and was a complete wreck all evening since he hadn't slept.
Luckily last night, Tuesday night/Wed. Morning, he finally crashed out and got a solid 10 hours of sleep, and woke up headache free. Thank god. That poor little boy was feeling horrible, and it just killed me that 1.) I let it happen and wasn't there to pick him up, but more so because of 2.) I didn't take him to the hospital right after it happened, to properly treat the concussion from the beginning.
Hard part is that to heal a concussion, the child needs to lay down and do nothing pretty much. They can't do anything that stresses the brain. No TV, no reading, no rampid playing, etc. YEAH RIGHT PEOPLE, he's 3. Wish me luck with that!!
Anyway, net net, Ty is getting better, but the bug has experience his fist big boo boo from playing. I guess we are just lucky it took this long for him to really hurt himself!
