Ty and his shot!

So Friday Ricky, myself, and Ty had to get the swine flu shot. I know, I know, a lot of people think it isn't really worth it, but with both the girls at home and gauranteed to get whatever Ty brings home we really couldn't chance any kind of flu bug this year.

Anyway, so we are driving to the appointment to get the shots, and I try out the tactic of telling Ty the complete truth about what he is about to experience, and to my suprise he isn't worried about it at all. I tell him it will be quick, and he will just feel a little pinch. He repeats it back to me and says "I'll feel just a little pinch, then I will be ok". I am thinking we may just be alright.

We walk into the doctors office and over to the H1N1 area, and there is this young girl there, maybe about 7 or 8 and she is just terrified to go in and get her shot. Rather then wait on the girl, the nurses take us first. Ty says he wants daddy to go first and so he does, then he says he doesn't want to go so I go next. Of course Ty doesn't want anything to do with the shot, espically once he heard how scared the girl outside was, so Ricky, the nurse, and myself gently coax Ty over to the bed, give him a sucker and while he is trying to unwrap it, he is administered the shot. He didn't flinch, didn't cry, did even bat an eye lid. Solid as a rock, concentrated on getting that dang sucker open.

All three of us make our way out of the office, of course bragging about how well Ty did, and then it is that other girls turn. As soon as the girl registered that they were taking her back she tried to make a bee-line for the door, her mom grabs her and tries to pull her back but the girl is kickly, falailing, crying, and screaming at the top of her lungs. One of the doctors comes out and helps the mom force the girl into the room. The girl is clutching onto every last thing she can find. As they pry her fingers off each item in the waiting room and move her inch by inch into the room for the shots, Ty watchs all of it in horror, looking up at me like "thank you mom for not doing that to me" (all the while I am thanking the nurses that they let us go before this incident occured as we NEVER would have gotten Ty in there after all that). They finally get the girl in the room and Ty turns to me, tells me he is ready to go, and starts skipping down the hallway, as the girl continues to scream in the background. It seriously sounds like they are tourturing her in there. All is done...

As we drive into work this morning, Ty informs me he is ready for another shot. I ask him if it's because he wants another sucker, and of course he tells me yes.

Morale of the story... it is proven, yet again, just how bad ass my son really is.... Just sayin!
